MKARNS Annual Navigation Notice No. 1-2025

As a result of partnering efforts with navigation stakeholders, the attached consolidated Notice to Navigation Interests has been prepared for the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System (MKARNS). The intent is to provide consistency by reviewing and informing current district regulations with a joint notice that will be updated annually. The notice is applicable to the Little Rock (SWL) and Tulsa (SWT) Districts.

MKARNS Nav Notice No. SWL 25-14 Lock 3 Unscheduled Closure

Due to issues with the Tainter valve equipment, Joe Hardin Lock (No. 3) NM 50.2 is currently closed to traffic. Crews are onsite and will have the Lock reopened as soon as the repairs are completed. A subsequent Navigation Notice will be issued once the Lock has been opened to traffic.

MKARNS Nav Notice No. SWL 24-93 NavPass Open

Due to increased river elevations, the crest gate dam at Montgomery Point Lock and Dam (NM 0.5) is lowered and the navigation pass is open. When the Montgomery Point Lock and Dam tailwater elevation drops below 115 ft., the navigation pass will be closed.

MKARNS Nav Notice No. SWL 24-89 Norrell Lock tow haulage repaired

The tow haulage equipment at Norrell Lock (No. 1) NM 10.3 has been repaired and returned to service.

MKARNS Nav Notice No. SWL 24-88 Norrell Lock tow haulage out of service

The tow haulage equipment at Norrell Lock (No. 1) NM 10.3 is currently out of service due to an electrical issue. Double cut tows will have to be locked the conventional way (without the use of tow haulage). A follow up notice will be distributed when the tow haulage equipment is back in service.

MKARNS Nav Notice No. SWL 24- 84 Lock 7 Tow Haulage Planned Outage

The tow haulage equipment at Murray Lock (No. 7) NM 125.4 will be taken out of service on December 2, 2024 to facilitate work on the new tow haulage system.

MKARNS Nav Notice No. SWL 24- 83 Lock 3 Closure

Mariners are advised that Joe Hardin Lock (No. 3) NM 50.2 will be closed to traffic beginning at 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on November 13, 2024. The lock closure is required to facilitate ongoing work on the hydraulic system.

MKARNS Nav Notice No. SWL 24-66 Sailing Instructions NM 237.1 to NM 238.1

Due to shoaling, mariners are advised that until further notice, both upbound and downbound tows should run the centerline from NM 237.1 to NM 238.1.
