The project includes four construction components that work together to control water flow and prevent an uncontrolled river cutoff:
① Historic Relief Channel Restoration Restoration of a historic relief channel between the White and Arkansas Rivers, incorporating a hydraulic weir at a crest elevation of 145 ft.
② 2.4-Mile Containment Structure Construction of a new containment structure along 2.4 miles, built to an elevation of 157 ft. to prevent uncontrolled overflow.
③ Owens Lake Containment Modification Modification of the existing Owens Lake containment structure to integrate with the new project infrastructure and improve overall flood containment.
④ LaGrue Culverts Improvement Improvement of the LaGrue Culverts to ensure proper drainage and hydraulic performance within the project area.
Environmental Mitigation: Approximately 20 acres of agricultural land will be converted to bottomland hardwood forest to meet mitigation requirements associated with the project.
