LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is notifying residents near Camp Robinson of upcoming unexploded ordnance investigations and remediation efforts. These activities, scheduled to begin in January 2025 and continue through February 2025, are part of routine work under the Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) program.
USACE is conducting these investigations and remediation efforts on behalf of the U.S. Army and the Department of Defense as part of the FUDS program. The FUDS program addresses the environmental hazards at sites once used by the DOD but are no longer in active use.
The focus of the work is to identify potential risks from munitions, explosives, and environmental contaminants at former Camp Robinson, located in Pulaski and Faulkner counties in Arkansas. The areas in and around the former camp, which were once used as a military training facility during World War II, will be assessed for any lingering hazards.
Residents, with or without signed right-of-entry agreements, will be notified in advance if their property is part of the investigations or remediation. Temporary safety zones will be established around investigation sites, and residents are urged to avoid disturbing flagged areas and not remove markers.
If unexploded ordnance or munitions debris are discovered during the investigation, they will be safely removed or detonated. Residents in the impacted areas will be temporarily evacuated if a detonation is required.
For additional information about the field investigation or remediation, residents can email CESWF-FUDS-Arkansas@usace.army.mil.
