ASHDOWN, Ark. – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are alerting Millwood Lake visitors that an invasive aquatic plant known as Giant Salvinia was discovered in the lake on Dec. 8, 2020.

Giant Salvinia is a threat to our nation’s natural resources capable of disrupting ecosystem quality and functions. Gone unchecked, it could also impact navigation, flood risk management, hydropower, water supply and recreation.

The USACE and AGFC are working to control the spread of Giant Salvinia by searching the reservoir and removing as much possible. The primary source of the infestation has not been found.

Watercraft operators are asked to be on the lookout for Giant Salvinia and avoid passing through dense beds of aquatic vegetation. Operators are also advised to clean, drain and dry all watercraft, equipment and trailers after each use.
