CORPS VERIFIES USE OF NATIONWIDE PERMIT FOR REMOVAL OF A PORTION OF DAWT MILL DAM

Published Sept. 1, 2016

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Army Corps of Engineers' Little Rock District has verified a nationwide permit allowing a portion of the Dawt Mill dam to be removed by its owners.

The authorization for the removal is required under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act.  Prior to approval, numerous local, state and federal agencies provided comments about the project to the Corps. The permit contains numerous conditions regarding removing a portion of the dam to remain in compliance with federal law and monitoring during the removal by the Corps and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

This is not a Corps of Engineers project.  The Corps' role has been to decide whether to authorize the work under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act.
