MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – The Corps of Engineers, Mountain Home Project Office has closed Oakland swim beach on Bull Shoals Lake until further notice. The temporary closure is the result of higher than acceptable E. coli levels that were found during routine testing conducted by the Arkansas Department of Health. Swimming is not recommended in areas with high bacteria levels.
The swim beach is currently closed because of high lake levels. When the lake level recedes, the Corps will post signs indicating the high bacteria levels. Once bacteria levels are within the acceptable range the swim beach will reopen.
According to Arkansas Department of Health officials, the high bacteria levels could be from run-off following recent heavy rains.
