LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -  The Army Corps of Engineers reminds boaters about the recently issued small craft advisory for the Arkansas River.  Recent heavy rains caused flows to rise.  During high flows, strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure craft.

Small craft advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second. Flows at Trimble Lock and Dam near Fort Smith peaked at 227,0000 c.f.s. today.  At Ozark- Jeta Taylor Lock and Dam at Ozark flows peaked today at 300,000 c.f.s. Flows at Dardanelle Lock and Dam at Russellville are 307,000 c.f.s. and expected to peak tomorrow at 315,000 c.f.s.

At Ormond Lock and Dam near Morrilton flows are 285,000 c.f.s and expected to peak tomorrow at 320,000 c.f.s.  Flows at Murray Lock and Dam at Little Rock are 233,000 c.f.s. today and are expected to peak May 13 at 330,000 c.f.s.  Flows at Sanders Lock and Dam at Pine Bluff are 165,000 c.f.s. and are expected to peak May 13 at 310,000 c.f.s.  Flows at Mills Dam near Arkansas Post were about 150,000 c.f.s. and expected to crest May 14 at 310,000 c.f.s.

More rain could push flows higher or cause the advisory to remain in effect longer.  Daily river information can be obtained at www.swl-wc.usace.army.mil or the Corps’ mobile App which can be found in mobile App stores by searching for USACE Little Rock.

The heavy rains have also caused some low lying recreation area along the Arkansas River to be closed.  The numbers for the Russellville, Nimrod/Blue Mountain and Pine Bluff project offices can be found at   http://www.swl.usace.army.mil/Contact/ContactLittleRockDistrict.aspx.
