HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. – The Army Corps of Engineers Greers Ferry Project Office personnel in coordination with the Arkansas Forestry Commission and other state agencies will conduct prescribed burns in and around Greers Ferry Lake park areas when weather conditions are favorable during the next several months.
Areas to be burned are those where timber stands were thinned to improve stand health and enhance wildlife value. The burning will support annual reestablishment of favorable native grasses and herbaceous species that will create volumes of food resources and increase cover for nesting and forage for a variety of wildlife species.
Burning within developed parks will reduce leaf accumulation and decrease the chances of a damaging wild fire during the summer recreation season.
