WORK ON GREERS FERRY DAM TO IMPACT TRAFFIC FROM OCTOBER THROUGH JANUARY

Published Oct. 17, 2014

HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. – The Army Corps of Engineers will be working on the Greers Ferry Dam turbine intake gates from Oct. 20, 2014, through January 2015. The work will create traffic delays on the Arkansas Highway 25 Bridge across the dam.

The work plan was revised to rehabilitate both gates in place. The anticipated road closures for the weekends of Oct. 25 - 26 and Nov. 15 - 16 have since been canceled.

The gates must be accessed from the roadway and equipment will be placed in one lane.  Therefore, one lane of the highway will be closed.  Traffic lights will be placed on both ends of the dam to ensure a safe flow of traffic around the workers and equipment until the project is completed.

The lane closure has been coordinated with local emergency and law enforcement agencies.  Officials from the Corps’ Greers Ferry Project Office regret any inconvenience this may cause.  They ask motorists to drive slowly and urge motorists to plan around the lane closing and allow extra time to reach their destinations.

For more information call the Greers Ferry Project office at 501-362-2416, or stop by the office near the dam on Highway 25, three miles north of Heber Springs.
