Volunteers are needed to participate in the Corps’ annual fall litter pickup Saturday, Sept. 6.  The event is held in conjunction with the Great Arkansas Cleanup, the annual fall statewide litter pickup campaign promoted by the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission.

Volunteers can contact their local participating marina for details on how to help.  Trash bags and supplies will be provided.  Volunteers are encouraged to bring work gloves.

This year’s local cleanup is sponsored by 101 Boat Dock, Fout Boat Dock, Buzzard Roost Boat Dock, Bull Shoals Lake Boat Dock, Jordan Marina, Quarry Marina, Lakeview Cove Marina, and Oakland Marina.

Everyone in the Norfork and Bull Shoals Lake area is encouraged to participate in this year’s cleanup effort.  Civic and service organizations, church and youth groups, school groups and clubs, scouts, individuals, families, neighborhoods, and businesses can organize cleanup teams and pitch in.

“Litter is everyone’s responsibility,” said Park Ranger, Kathleen Payne, local coordinator of this year’s cleanup. “Although not everyone litters, we do all live in this community and should work together to keep it clean. By participating in this year’s Great Arkansas Cleanup, local residents can help keep our lakes clean and beautiful.”

This year’s local cleanup is also sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, Keep America Beautiful and the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Foundation.
