Published Sept. 5, 2014

The Army Corps of Engineers will host a public workshop from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 at the Hampton Inn conference room, 810 Museum Rd, in Conway, Ark.  The public workshop will provide details on an upcoming munitions removal project at the former Camp Robinson.

After introductions and informal discussions, the formal presentation of the project will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the last hour of the workshop reserved for one-on-one questions with representatives from the Corps and their contractors.

The removal project will take place north of Highway 89 at the east end of Moody Road, and along Stone Mountain Road near the intersection with Dreamers Lane. Anyone living on or owning land within the removal area at the former Camp Robinson is encouraged to attend.

The former Camp Robinson was used as an infantry division-training center and later as an infantry replacement training area.  Troops were trained with rifles, pistols, machine guns, live grenades, mortars, and various pieces of field artillery.
