HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. – The Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District will begin a spillway release from Greers Ferry Dam today.

One gate was opened one foot at noon today and will be releasing about 600 cubic feet per second.  An additional gate will be opened at 4 p.m. releasing about 600 c.f.s.  Total release at 4 p.m. from two gates and one turbine will be about 1,500 c.f.s.  Additional gates may be added tomorrow but total releases will not exceed 3,000 c.f.s. unless current conditions change.

A release of 3,000 c.f.s. is equivalent to a normal flood control release from the hydropower turbine at the current lake level.

These releases will continue until the lake falls below 462 feet.

The Corps is making spillway releases while the power plant is offline for necessary repairs.

Updated release rates are available by calling 501-362-5150.

For more information call the Greers Ferry Project office at 501-362-2416, or stop by the office near the dam on Highway 25, three miles north of Heber Springs.
