MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Little Rock District will start major roadwork at Panther Bay and Lakeview Park recreation areas on Sept. 16, 2024. The project involves significant repaving and will continue through November, causing several full and partial closures because of heavy equipment and the scope of work.
Both Panther Bay and Lakeview Cove marinas will remain accessible during construction, though restricted lane usage or delays may occur. At times, Panther Bay Marina may only be accessed through the Panther Bay Campground off Highway 62.
USACE will update the public on major access changes through local and social media.
All special events at both parks are canceled, and no new events will be scheduled until the work is completed. While camping reservations at Panther Bay Park will not be affected, Lakeview Park will fully close on Sept. 16, 2024. This includes all campsites, pavilions, boat launch facilities, and other day-use facilities. During the closure, customers can use alternate boat launching facilities at Dam Site Park in Bull Shoals.
USACE officials regret the inconvenience but emphasize that the work will enhance safety and improve the visitor experience.
This project marks the start of planned improvements, including enhancements to boat ramps, additional parking in both normal and high-water areas, and improvements to park entry and exit points.
Funding for this project comes from the 2024 Bipartisan Infrastructure Act. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Act is a historic investment in U.S. infrastructure, funding projects for roads, bridges, water systems, broadband, and more to enhance safety, create jobs, and improve competitiveness.
