MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be closing one lane of Highway 177 across Norfork Dam from 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 1 until 5 p.m. on Nov. 1, 2023, for routine maintenance. USACE will begin installing traffic control equipment at 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 28 in preparation for the closure.

The single lane closure will be established in the northbound traffic lane. Traffic lights will be present to assist with the flow of traffic, but motorists should plan for additional travel time.

Interment full road closures are tentatively scheduled for the following dates:

Sept. 11 through Sept. 14, 2023

Sept. 25 through Sept. 27, 2023

Oct. 16 through Oct. 19, 2023

Oct. 30 through Nov. 1, 2023

Additional news releases will be sent out prior to the tentative full road closures once the dates have been confirmed.

The closures are being coordinated with emergency services and law enforcement agencies.

Please plan an alternate route through this area during the full road closures. Travel to locations southbound on Hwy 177 past the Norfork dam closure will require a detour using Highway 5 through Norfork, then Baxter County Road #64 north back to Hwy 177 at Jordan. Northbound travelers on Hwy 177 will need to take the detour around the dam on Baxter County Road #64 south from Jordan to Hwy 5 south of Norfork.

USACE officials regret any inconvenience this may cause and ask for the public’s cooperation until the work is complete. For more information, contact the Mountain Home Project Office at 870-425-2700.
