UPCOMING INTERMITTENT DELAYS, DAILY CLOSURE AND WIDTH RESTRICTION

DARDANELLE LOCK AND DAM (NO. 10) NM 205.5

MCCLELLAN-KERR ARKANSAS RIVER NAVIGATION SYSTEM

Starting March 18, mariners will experience intermittent delays of up to 12 hours, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, at Dardanelle Lock and Dam (No. 10) NM 205.5.  These delays can be expected through late May.  The intermittent delays are for concrete saw-cutting of the lock walls for new dewatering bulkhead slots near the upstream miter gates.

Starting in mid-June for approximately 100 days, Dardanelle lock will be closed to traffic daily between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.  The lock will be open daily between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., but during this time there will be a 70’ width restriction in place.  The Army Corps of Engineers will not provide assist boats or assist services during this time.

his daytime closure and overnight width restriction are required for removal of the cut concrete and installation of metal armoring in the bulkhead slots.  This phase of work requires installation of a cofferbox against the wall to allow worker access during the daily closure.  This box cannot be removed at night, necessitating the width restriction.

During this entire activity the tow haulage system’s availability will be intermittent, particularly for upbound tows, and double cut tows may have to be locked conventionally (without the use of tow haulage).

Mariners are asked to contact the lock via radio on Channel 16 or by phone (479) 890-4987, in advance of arrival, for current conditions

This navigation notice will be updated as the work progresses.  Questions or requests for additional information concerning this notice should be directed to the Little Rock District Office, at (501) 324-5739, or you may email CESWL-OP-OM@usace.army.mil.
