BRANSON, Mo. -- Park rangers will be offering the following interpretive programs and events at Dewey Short Visitor Center during the month of September.  All programs are free of charge and no registration is required.

Visit the Dewey Short Visitor Center on Sunday, Sept. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 at 3 p.m. to learn from a park ranger about the workings and many benefits of hydropower.

On Monday Sept. 3 at 11 a.m., the visitor center will be hosting a hike with the ranger to learn and ask questions about plants, insects, animals, and more. Meet in the lobby near the front desk and theater and bring a water bottle to participate in this short hike.

On Monday, Sept. 17, a ranger will be exhibiting the Enviroscape display to show just how pollution ends up in our waterways and environment. This will take place in the visitor center at 11 a.m. This is a great, interactive program for all ages.

What do water quality and the geology of the Ozarks have in common? You might be surprised how much the two influence each other. Find out more on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 12, 19 and 26. A ranger will be in the lobby of the Dewey Short Visitor Center on these dates at 11 a.m. to share more on this important and fascinating topic.

Come join one of the rangers at the overlook just off Highway 165, across the highway from Dewey Short Visitor Center. The ranger will be available to answer questions about hydropower and point out features of the dam and powerhouse as well as answer any other questions you might have. You will find a ranger at the overlook on Saturday Sept. 1, 15, 22 and 29 at 11 a.m.

Come visit with a ranger Saturday Sept. 8 and Sunday Sept. 9 at the Annual Bass Pro Outdoor Days located at Table Rock State Park. Rangers will have a station set-up at the event, stop by to visit and learn more about water safety.

The visitor center’s old gift shop area by the front desk will be showcasing the history of the Army Corps of Engineers and Table Rock Dam the entire month of September. This exhibit will display records, pictures and a historic Army Corps of Engineers uniform that was donated to the visitor center.

The Dewey Short Visitor Center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  It is located just south of Table Rock Dam on State Highway 165.  The visitor center offers interactive displays, a 22-minute movie about the purpose and construction of the dam, and viewing decks overlooking Table Rock Lake and Dam. Picnic facilities and a 2.2 mile asphalt surface trail are located on the visitor center grounds.

Some programs may be cancelled in inclement weather.  For more information or to check the status of a program, please call 501-340-1943.
