Sheppard Island Park to reopen prior to Arkansas Big Bass Bonanza

Published June 26, 2018

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The Army Corps of Engineers will reopen Sheppard Island Park, adjacent to Emmett Sanders Lock and Dam near Pine Bluff, Ark., on June 28, one day prior to the start of the Arkansas Big Bass Bonanza.

The park has been closed to the public since May 9 allowing contractors to remove sand and debris deposited in the park during the 2015 and 2016 floods. As of now heavy equipment and dump truck use has been greatly reduced lowering safety concerns and allowing public access.

Some sand and debris remains however and contractors will resume work on July 2, but the park will remain open because of the reduced safety concerns. Visitors should expect to see heavy equipment in the park for the next two to three weeks as contractors finish the project.

Officials from the Army Corps of Engineers McClellan-Kerr Project – Pine Bluff Site Office regret any inconvenience this may cause.

For more information call Pine Bluff Site Office Manager Brian Osberghaus at 501-340-1309.
