Sheppard’s Island Park to Close for Debris Removal

Published May 3, 2018

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Army Corps of Engineers will temporarily close Sheppard Island Park, adjacent to Emmett Sanders Lock & Dam near Pine Bluff, Ark., for up to six weeks beginning May 9 to allow contractors to remove about 30,000 cubic yards of sand and debris deposited in the park during the 2015 and 2016 floods.

During this time, contractors will be using heavy equipment and dump trucks to remove sand and debris from the park raising public safety concerns.  When work is complete, the public will have better access to the boat ramp, picnic sites, parking, and bank fishing areas that have been affected since the floods.

Officials from the Army Corps of Engineers McClellan-Kerr Project – Pine Bluff Site Office regret any inconvenience this may cause.
