BRANSON, Mo. -- The Army Corps of Engineers will open five more of its recreation areas on Table Rock Lake Tuesday, May 1. These parks include Aunts Creek, Baxter, Big M, Eagle Rock, and Viola. Moonshine Beach, which is a day use only area, will open May 15.
Site specific camping and picnic shelter reservations for Table Rock Lake recreation areas can be made through the National Recreation Reservation Service by calling toll free 1-877-444-6777 or visiting the reservation website at www.ReserveUSA.com.
Dewey Short Visitor Center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Park rangers will be offering the following interpretive programs and events at Dewey Short Visitor Center during the month of May. All programs are free of charge and no registration is required.
Stop by the visitor center to learn about hiking trails available in southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, May 2 and 9.
Visit with a Park ranger at the overlook beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursdays, May 3, 10, 17 and 31. The ranger will be available to answer questions and point out features of the dam and powerhouse. Visitors can come and go. Meet at the overlook off Highway 165. Just across the highway/dam from Dewey Short Visitor Center. The ranger will be on-site for 30 minutes and this program is appropriate for all ages.
Saturday, May 19 is Kids to Parks Day, join park rangers for Games in the Yard from 1 – 3 p.m. 4th grade students will also be able to earn their 2018 Every Kid in the Parks pass by participating in a special activity during this time.
May 19 through 25 is National Safe Boating Week. Make sure you are ready to safely enjoy boating and swimming this summer. Join park rangers each day throughout the week at 1 p.m. for a special activity. Visitor center staff will be participating in Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day on May 18. Sunday, May 20, Wear It Right – learn how to choose a safe and properly fitting life jacket; Monday, May 21, Story Time; Tuesday, May 22, and Thursday, May 24 surprise programs; Wednesday, May 23, Water Safety Wednesday; and Friday, May 25, Water Safety Trivia.
In honor of National Safe Boating Week the Dewey Short Visitor Center will also feature a new activity area.
