LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The Army Corps of Engineers' Little Rock District is seeking public comments through Sept. 8 on environmental documents relating to a water supply storage reallocation of 41,960 acre-feet of additional storage reallocated from the hydropower purpose to the water supply purpose at Beaver Lake in Arkansas.

This reallocation study is in response to three separate requests for municipal and industrial water supply from Benton/Washington County Water Association; Carroll-Boone Water District; and Madison County Rural Water.

The Corps’ Little Rock District is conducting this project under the authority of the Water Supply Act of 1958.  This authority provides for the Corps to reallocate existing storage space to municipal and industrial water supply and that the federal government should participate and cooperate with states and local interests in developing such water supplies in connection with the construction, maintenance, and operation of federal navigation, flood control, irrigation, or multiple purpose projects.

The documents are a Draft Water Supply Reallocation Storage Report including the Draft Environmental Assessment and a Draft Finding of No Significant Impact.  The proposed work would cause no significant adverse effects to the human environment, and an Environmental Impact Statement will not be required.

The documents can also be reviewed on the Internet at: https://go.usa.gov/xREQ9 or at the following locations:
