Welcome to Greers Ferry Lake
At the foot of Round Mountain in the beautiful Ozark Mountains of north-central Arkansas stands Greers Ferry Dam. Behind that structure dedicated in 1963 by the late President John F. Kennedy, glistens one of the foremost recreational areas in the middle United States, Greers Ferry Lake.
With over 30,000 acres of water surface, the lake serves as a playground for all kinds of water sports. Eighteen parks around the shoreline provide modern campgrounds, boat launches, swim areas and marinas. Whether you enjoy boating, skiing, fishing, swimming, camping, picnicking, or scuba diving, Greers Ferry Lake has an activity for you.
World-Class Fishing: Greers Ferry is widely known as a record-producing fishery. The lake is currently home of the world record walleye (22lb. 11oz.) and state record hybrid-striped bass (27lb. 5 oz.). The Little Red River, downstream of Greers Ferry Dam, is known world-wide as a premier trout fishery and was home to a world record brown trout (1992 – 2009) weighing 40 lb. 4 oz.
Natural Resources & Wildlife ▼
Bald Eagles
Greers Ferry is the home of dozens of wintering Bald Eagles. In addition, the lake has two known Bald Eagle nests that have been actively used for the past several years. We participate in the Mid-Winter Annual Eagle Survey each year, helping track populations and ensure the continued success of these magnificent birds.
Timber Management
Prescribed burning is utilized to enhance timber stands, wildlife habitat, and reduce opportunity for wildfires. The burning reduces fuel loading by removing logging slash, tops and limbs scattered throughout the stands following thinning activity. It also promotes vigorous growth of new understory vegetation such as grasses and forbs important to wildlife for food and protective cover.
This active management ensures healthy forests that support diverse wildlife populations while reducing wildfire risk and improving overall ecosystem health around Greers Ferry Lake.
