The Little Rock District recently conducted flood fighting technique training at the Greers Ferry Lake Project Office.
The training, attended by 30 district employees was led by the district’s chief of emergency management, Jim Marple and the levee safety program manager, Elmo Webb.
The highlight of the training was when employees were able to use the district sandbag machine. They were taught how to set-up and tear down the machine and how to perform pre-operations maintenance. Every employee in attendance was then given the opportunity to operate the machine and fill sandbags.
Flood fighting authorities, flood fight response actions and flood fighting equipment including HESCOs, sandbags and 16-inch pumps were also talked about and on display at the training.
The levee safety program manager covered the levee safety program, how to patrol levees and what issues to look for that may cause a levee to fail.
This comprehensive training will be conducted annually to ensure the district employees are prepared for the next flood fighting event.
