CORPS BEGINS RELEASES THROUGH SPILLWAY AT NORFORK DAM WHILE ONE HYDROPOWER UNIT UNDERGOES MAINTENANCE

MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – The Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District opened five spillway gates today at Norfork Dam to supplement a hydropower turbine release as it lowers the lake.

Five spillway gates will be opened one foot each to substitute for the one hydropower turbine unit which is currently offline for routine maintenance.  At 8 a.m., five spillway gates began releasing 3,250 cubic feet per second.  About 2,750 c.f.s. is being released through the hydropower turbines for a total release of 6,000 c.f.s. which is the equivalent to two hydropower turbines at full power. 

The combined spillway and turbine release will continue until the second hydropower unit is brought back on line.  Maintenance on the offline unit should be complete by April 13.
