“MAY BRANCH, FORT SMITH, ARKANSAS.– The project for flood damage reduction, May Branch, Fort Smith, Arkansas: Report of the Chief of Engineers dated December 19, 2006, at a total cost of $30,850,000, with an estimated Federal cost of $15,010,000 and an estimated non-Federal cost of $15,840,000.“

The project would consist of 2.77 miles of channel construction, 15 structure relocations, 5 railroad and 9 road crossings, and a gated hydraulic control structure at the Fort Smith Levee. The flood reduction project would be located in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

The most recent flooding of the May Branch Basin occurred on 18 March and 10 April 2008.

  Congress provided funding for fiscal year 2008 to initiate preconstruction engineering and design. On March 20, 2008, Congressman John Boozman toured the May Branch project area with city officials.
