Viewing/Bird Watching
The
Millwood Lake area is widely regarded as one of the best birding
regions in Arkansas. With an abundance of food a varied habitats,
multitudes of birds are attracted year-round to Millwood Lake. Birders
from across the nation come to Millwood to get a glimpse of a wide
variety of birds that include over 333 species reported within a
7.5-mile area. A flock of white pelicans make their home year-round
on the lake, while Bald Eagles, Golden-winged Warblers, Gulls, and
several species of ducks are among the birds making an appearance
throughout the year. Not only do we have a wide variety of birds
but also of other wildlife. Millwood is home to the whitetail deer,
American alligator, fox squirrel, cottontail rabbit, swamp rabbit,
eastern wild turkey, bobwhite quail, otter, muskrat, mink, mourning
dove, and many others. Millwood Lake personnel ensures the natural
habitat of these animals by thinning timber, prescribed burns, and
creating food plots, thus, making Millwood Lake an outdoor classroom
as well as being a place to enjoy the tranquilizing effect of watching
and photographing wildlife in its native and natural surroundings.
