Fishing
The Pine Bluff Project (working with the Arkansas Post Field Office)
covers 125 river miles of the Arkansas
River. The fishing opportunities are excellent for largemouth bass,
crappie, bream, catfish, and occasionally sauger and striped and
smallmouth bass. Snagging for catfish on the downstream side of
the dams is popular. Wilbur D. Mills Dam area is the most productive
snagging area. Anglers find great success whether fishing from boats
or the river banks.
Hunting
The
Pine Bluff Project includes the portion of the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas
River Navigation System from the mouth of the White River to Murray
Lock and Dam. In the area of the Arkansas Post Field Office, about
10,000 acres are open for public hunting downstream from Pendleton
Bridge at navigation mile 22.5 on the Arkansas River. These land
and water areas are managed under a license agreement with the Arkansas
Game and Fish Commission. These
areas are regulated as a part of the Trusten Holder Wildlife Management
Area. Hunting opportunities are available for waterfowl, deer, turkey,
squirrel, rabbit, dove, quail, and other in-season game.
