    Heat safety is a team effort

    Summertime in the Natural State conjures up images of boating, swimming, grilling out with friends and family and holiday gatherings. However, summertime also means periods of extreme heat conditions. Over the last several weeks, heat indices of more than 105 degrees have caused a record number of Arkansans to suffer from heat related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • The Perfect Throw

    We often think about sports icons when we think of the “the perfect throw.” We think of a quarterback in the Super Bowl that threads the needle for the final touchdown to win the game, or the pitcher that slings the final strike to close out a perfect game. Undoubtedly, these are incredible moments. These moments take years of practice and sweat equity from the athletes before they’re in a position to make “the perfect throw.” However, there are moments in life where the perfect throw doesn’t happen on the field. It happens in the split seconds between life and death. This is that story… It was a smoldering hot 4th of July day at Greers Ferry Lake in central Arkansas. Every recreation area around the lake was packed with visitors looking for a place to cool off.

    USACE signs agreement with Arkansas Waterways Commission to update tow haulage at Murray Lock and Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District entered into a cost-share Memorandum of Agreement with the Arkansas Waterways Commission to update tow haulage equipment at Murray Lock and Dam on June 9 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

    May 20-26 declared as Safe Boating Week in Arkansas

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District in partnership with the Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary and Entergy attended a Safe Boating Week Proclamation ceremony where Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders declared May 20-26 as Safe Boating Week in the Natural State.

    International Boating and Water Safety Summit 2023

    Little Rock District Deputy Commander Lt. Col. ChaTom “CT” Warren was a keynote speaker along with Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr., and U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Wayne Arquin Jr., at this year’s International Boating and Water Safety Summit hosted by the National Safe Boating Council in Little Rock, Arkansas on April 16.

    USACE needs more engineers for its Dam Safety Production Center

    Dams are often synonymous with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Responsible for more than 740 dams across the nation, USACE and its Dam Safety Program is responsible ensuring these structures provide many significant benefits to the nation while also reducing risks to people, property, and the environment. Central to this effort in the Southwestern Division are the engineers working for the Dam Safety Production Center.

  • National Engineers Week - 2023

    Engineer Week is a celebration that takes place on the third week of February annually because it coincides with President George Washington’s birthday. This is significant, since Washington is considered our Nation’s first engineer, and he also appointed the first engineer officers to the U.S. Army on June 16, 1775, during the American Revolution.
