MKARNS Nav Notice SWL 16-50 U.S. Coast Guard Safety Zone NM 118.6-NM 119.6

Published Sept. 27, 2016

To ensure the safety of life and property on the navigable waters during demolition of the Broadway Bridge, the U.S. Coast Guard is establishing a safety zone on the Arkansas River from mile marker 118.6 to mile marker 119.6.

Work is scheduled to begin on September 28; the U.S. Coast Guard will broadcast notices to mariners indicating to use caution while transiting the area.  A safety zone will be in effect from October 01 until November 01.  Entry into this area will be prohibited during certain demolition operations.  A representative of the Captain of the Port Memphis will be on-scene to stop traffic during these times.  All vessels transiting the navigation channel will be required to maintain slowest speed for safe navigation to minimize wake.  Temporary marker buoys marked “no-wake” will be placed in the river.

Vessels may contact Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi River on VHF-FM Channel 16 for further information.
