CORPS ANNOUNCES JULY PROGRAMS AT DEWEY SHORT VISITOR CENTER

BRANSON, Mo. - The Army Corps of Engineers Dewey Short Visitor Center at Table Rock Lake is offering several park ranger led programs through the end of July.  All programs are free, open to the public, and registration is not required.  Unless otherwise noted, programs begin at Dewey Short Visitor Center.

A human board game is played at 2 p.m. on Mondays, July18, and 25. Bring the family to test your nature knowledge in a life size board game.

Nature Tales is held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, July 12, 19, and 26.  Join park rangers and volunteers for nature stories and activities. Each program will last 30 minutes and include reading a nature themed story and hands-on activity.

A survival/first aid program is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, July 12, 19, and 26. Do you think you know what to do if an emergency arises? Come learn some helpful tips that just might save someone’s life!

Learn more about Table Rock Dam when you visit with a park ranger from 9-9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, July 13, 20, and 27 at the Dam Overlook off of Highway 165 (across the highway from Dewey Short Visitor Center).

A presentation on hydropower will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13.  Attend to learn about hydropower and how it is produced at Table Rock Dam.

Grab an insect net and meet a park ranger at Dewey Short Visitor Center for a morning critter hunt on the grounds at 9 a.m. on Thursdays, July 14, 21, and 28.

The Dams on the White River program will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 14. Learn about the history and modern missions of the dams on the upper White River.

An Energy Carnival will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Friday, July 15 at Dewey Short Visitor Center.  Form a team and challenge others at games to learn about energy, where it comes from and how to conserve it.

Guided nature hikes are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. on Fridays, July 15, 22 and 29.   Meet the park ranger at the Lakeshore Trailhead - accessible from the Dewey Short Visitor Center parking lot - to learn what lives in the woods along the trail.

Mammal Mania will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturdays, July 16, 23 and 30. Participants of all ages can test their mammal knowledge!

A Bird Safari is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays, July 16, 23 and 30. Find out what type of birds call Table Rock Lake home.

Water quality will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays, July 17, 24, and 31.  Learn about what types of organisms are living in Table Rock Lake. Come prepared to get a little wet; water shoes are recommended. 

Some programs may be cancelled because of weather. For more information or to verify that a program has not been cancelled, please call the visitor center at 501-340-1943. The center is currently open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
