LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Army Corps of Engineers closed Murray Lock on the Arkansas River Aug. 30 through Sep. 4, so workers could “dewater” it to assess and repair the downstream lock gates but discovered maintenance issues that would not allow for the temporary dam to be set in place.

Even though the lock will not be dewatered, Corps personnel will be able to perform some of the scheduled maintenance and inspections.

Murray Lock is located in Little Rock below the Big Dam Bridge. The lock closure will not affect the bridge.

The public is still invited to stop by the Big Dam Bridge to see the work in progress and to learn more about the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System.

The lock will be available for limited use by commercial shippers, with prior approval and with restrictions, between 6 p.m. until 5 a.m. daily.
