Published Sept. 20, 2013

MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. -- The Army Corps of Engineers is taking applications through Nov. 15 for a special muzzlerloader youth deer hunt to be held Dec 14-15 at Ozark Isle Park area on Bull Shoals Lake.   Ten permits will be issued to hunter education graduates, 15 years old and under.

Interested youth hunters must include their hunter education identification number on their application which is due by Nov. 15.  A random drawing will be held at 10 a.m. Nov. 20 at the Corps’ Project Office in Mountain Home, Ark. to select the ten hunters.

This hunt provides access and hunting blinds to help youth enjoy a safe and successful outdoor recreation experience.  This opportunity helps create an interest in conservation, the outdoors, and to develop good hunting ethics, while improving the deer herd in this area.

An unarmed adult, at least 21 years old, must accompany youth hunters during the hunt.  Youth hunters will be limited to muzzleloading rifles only.

Application forms may be picked at the Corps of Engineers office at 324 West 7th St. in Mountain Home or by contacting Park Ranger Carrie Lamb at 870-425-2700, ext. 1400 or Supervisory Natural Resource Biologist Bruce Caldwell at 870-425-2700, ext. 1425.
