LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -‑ The Army Corps of Engineers issued a small craft advisory for the Arkansas River downstream of Van Buren, Arkansas. Overnight heavy rainfall in eastern Oklahoma has caused flows to rise. Small craft advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second. During high flows, strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure craft.
At noon today, Arkansas River flow at Van Buren was 75,000 cfs and rising. River flow at Van Buren is forecasted to reach 120,000 c.f.s. on Aug. 24 with flows downstream of Van Buren forecasted to rise through the weekend.
