PLAINVIEW, Ark. – The Army Corp of Engineers is urging all visitors to both Nimrod and Blue Mountain lakes to exercise caution while lake levels are high.  Campers and boaters visiting the park areas should be aware that certain recreation areas may be closed to the public for their protection.

As the water recedes, some campsites and campsite loops will remain closed because of campsite rehabilitation work and roadway paving. The Corps hopes to complete the work before the Memorial Day holiday, weather permitting.

Campgrounds and facilities affected at Nimrod Lake are:  Quarry Cove campsites 10-15, 22-31, group picnic shelter, playground, and the east boat ramp and parking lot; Carter Cove campsites 1-16, group picnic shelter, playground, and restroom in the loop with campsites 1-16.

Campsites affected at Blue Mountain Lake are as follows: Waveland campsites 32-51.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but we believe the improved facilities will be worth the wait.

The Corps is also reminding boaters that high waters levels can make boating more hazardous. Officials advise boaters and anglers to prepare for these conditions and use extra caution.  When boating, no matter how high the water, be sure to wear a life jacket.  You should also remember to use the boat’s kill switch and slow down to watch for submerged debris.

Use caution when launching because high water can make ramps tricky.  Be patient if others take a little longer than normal.  When boating near the shore or in coves, go slow to avoid underwater obstacles such as signposts, picnic tables, trees, stumps and other obstructions that are normally on dry ground.
