Dewey Short Visitor Center

BRANSON, Mo. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Dewey Short Visitor Center at Table Rock Lake is now open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A self-guided children’s activity area is available when the visitor center is open.

In addition, several park ranger led programs are planned for the month of March. All programs begin at the visitor center, are free, open to the public, and no registration is required.

Feeling the luck of the Irish? Then join us for a four-leaf clover hunt which will take place on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17 at 1 p.m. Have you ever found a four-leaf clover? Join a ranger to learn why the four-leaf clover occurs and go on a clover hunt. It may be your lucky day.

What’s in the water will be held March 4, 11, 18 and 25. Our streams and lakes are filled with all types of organisms. Join our park rangers at the water's edge as we take water samples and learn about our aquatic friends. We will be bringing the water samples back into our lab to put them under a microscope for a closer look.

Table Rock Dam talk will be offered at 1 p.m. on Fridays, March 9 and 16. Have you seen the movie but have more questions? Then join us for a talk about the building and operating of Table Rock Dam and find the answers to those elusive questions. This program will last 30-45 minutes and is appropriate for all ages.

Bundle up for a spring hike at 11 a.m. on March 10, 17, 20, 24, 27 and 31 to learn more about what local wildlife and plants are on the Lakeshore Trail. The trail has an asphalt surface and follows the lake’s shoreline. Difficulty is easy and we will be walking about one-half to1 total mile (varies by audience). Meet at the lakeshore trailhead. This ranger-led walk lasts 30-40 minutes and is appropriate for all ages.

Visit with a park ranger at the overlook beginning at 10 a.m. on March 8, 15, 22 and 29.  The ranger will be available to answer questions and point out features of the dam and powerhouse. Visitors can come and go. Meet at the overlook off Highway 165.  Just across the highway/dam from Dewey Short Visitor Center.  The ranger will be on-site for 30 minutes and this is appropriate for all ages.

An energy carnival will be held from 1-3 p.m. March 23 at Dewey Short Visitor Center.  Form a team and challenge others at games to learn about energy, where it comes from and how to conserve it.

Some programs may be cancelled because of weather. For more information or to verify that a program has not been cancelled, please contact the visitor center at 501-340-1943.
