BRANSON, Mo. --The Army Corps of Engineers will be offering the following interpretive programs and events at Dewey Short Visitor Center during the month of October.  All programs are free of charge.  Registration is required only for the Night at the Museum event. No registration is required for other programs

Wild things in the Ozarks will be offered at 1 p.m. Oct. 8, 9, 17, 21, 22 and 27.  Join a ranger for this fascinating program on the animals, birds, snakes, and insects found in the wild Ozarks. We will talk about where they live, what they do, and how they survive.  The program will last 30-45 minutes and is appropriate for all ages.

Table Rock Dam talk will be offered at 1 p.m. Oct. 10, 20, 28, and 29.  Seen the movie but have more questions? Want to know more facts and figures?  Confused about how something works? Then join us for a talk about the building and operating of Table Rock Dam and find the answers to those elusive questions.  This program will last 30-45 minutes and is appropriate for all ages.

Nature tales will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 12, 18, and 31.  It’s time for fun and education as we read a nature themed story in our reading area. After the story we will have a special activity.  This program will last 20-40 minutes and designed for ages 3-7.

Visit with a park ranger at the overlook on Oct. 5 at 9 a.m., Oct. 11 at 1 p.m., Oct. 19 at 11 a.m., and Oct. 26 at 9 a.m. The ranger will be available to answer questions and point out features of the dam and powerhouse. Visitors can come and go. Meet at the overlook off Highway 165, across the highway/dam from the Dewey Short Visitor Center.  The ranger will be on-site for 30 minutes and this program is appropriate for all ages.

Ranger walk will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 14, 15, 24, and 30.  A park ranger will join you on the Lakeshore Trail to talk about the plants, animals, insects, birds, and ecology of Table Rock Lake. This is an asphalt surface trail that follows the shoreline of Table Rock Lake. Difficulty is easy and we will be walking about ½ - 1 mile total (varies by audience). Meet at the Lakeshore Trailhead.  This walk lasts 30-40 minutes and is appropriate for all ages.

A presentation on hydropower will be offered at 1 p.m. Oct. 5 and 18.  Learn about hydropower and how it is made by examining construction photos that show the essential components at Table Rock Dam.  This program will last 20-30 minutes and is recommended for ages 10 to adult.

Night at the Museum begins at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 3.  Come to the visitor center for a special evening of family-friendly programming.  Explore the exhibits and grounds after dark and learn about nocturnal animals.  Finish the evening around a campfire on the bluff overlooking Table Rock Lake and Dam.  Participants should wear sturdy footwear, bring flashlights, and pack a blanket or chairs to use by the campfire.  The event is free, but registration is required by calling 501-340-1933 by 3 p.m. Nov. 2.  In case of rain, the activities may be moved inside.  This event may last 2 hours, but visitors can come and go.  It is open to all ages.

The visitor center is open daily from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. during the month of October.   Some programs may be cancelled because of inclement weather. For more information or to check the status of a program, please call 501-340-1943.
